Didnt Know 2nd Grade Could Be So Stressful

Larson has a "I have to please everyone personality" , then add in the perfectionist personality that his Mom has sadly passed onto him and you have a stressed out 2nd grader. Luckily I realized this very quickly and have taken major steps in showing him imperfection can be just as acceptable and sometimes even better.
2nd grade is the first year that you have actual letter grades on your report card. He would have some tears while doing some math homework because he just had to have it be right. I found him one morning in the kitchen up earlier than his normal time and he was giving himself another spelling test for the one he was taking that morning at school. I can promise that he had already gone over those words more than enough times.
It took a few weeks before he brought home his graded school work. I pulled out the first one and it was a 100. Good Job Larson! Then pulled out the next one and it was a 100.
Actually every single paper had a 100 on it. Really Larson?? I think you can stop thinking about these grades so much. I got a call from his teacher and there were not enough kind words that she had to say about this kid. She even said that he was the smartest kid that she has ever taught. Im not so sure about that but I do know that he is a great kid. The only concern she had was that he seemed to be a little hard on himself. I told her that we were working on that. She said that her and every other teacher know they can always count on Larson to pair him up with another student that needs help with something. He is so compassionate and cares about how others are doing. Im having to teach him about peoples personal space as he loves to pat on the back and get really close. He is the first to pick up a kid that is down on the sports fields. As cool as that is, I had to let Larson know that he was really stressing about nothing and that he needs to go a little easier on himself.
Here is a picture of Larson after attending my stress free rehab for a couple more weeks. Its really not as bad as this sounds but its just funny to watch Larson. He is by far our easiest kid.
Yes, he made 100's on his continent unit.
He proudly brought home straight A's on his first report card.
We are very proud of Larson!
